A One Way Ticket to Australia

The image shows a cartoon drawing of a blonde girl in a pink dress holding her arms up and holding an Australian flag. She is standing on a photo of a beach with a floating ring beside her.
Actual footage of me last week.

Big week for moi. I packed up my life in Edinburgh and boarded a one way flight to Brisbane.

It was fairly spur of the moment. I had the idea, thought over it a little bit, flipped a coin (really), and made the decision.

“But you love Edinburgh!” was a common reaction from people hearing the news.

I do love Edinburgh. I love it so much. Borderline obsessed with it, actually.

But I also love adventure, change, and the sun.

When I think about the lifestyle I want long term, I picture an active, outdoors life in the sunshine. Edinburgh has about a million perfect attributes, but it can’t offer me that.

Whilst conducting a life audit a few months ago, I realised that I was in the absolute perfect situation to pick up and go try something I have thought about for years. I had already unsubscribed from a lot of my responsibilities (I’d quit my job, rented my flat out, ended my relationship) and I have a free six months before I need to be back in Europe for a wedding. The more I thought about it, there seemed to be no good argument for not buying a one way ticket to Australia. So I did it. And here I am.

I’m calling it a six month adventure for now and I’ll assess how I feel about staying long term once those six months are up.

The thought of starting over is a little daunting, but then I remember how lucky I am to have the chance to trial life here, whilst knowing I have a lovely life in Edinburgh to go back to whenever I want.

Plus, there is an entire supermarket aisle here dedicated to BBQ and picnic so that’s a big old tick in the pros column.

I’m excited about all the fun I have ahead of me, and all the experiences to come. I’m so grateful for this life of endless opportunity.

Hello, you!

Hello, you!

Lisa Seaton: Zing Hunter

Welcome to The Zing Collective. What is zing? Zing is the feeling of joy you get inside when you're truly living your best life. It's that feeling when your heart skips a beat; when your chest feels a little bit fizzy; when you want to do a wiggly dance because you're just so damn delighted with life. That is zing. And that's what we're all about here.
