This post is part of the Sparking Zing Series. In this series I delve into some the things I’m doing to spark zing and, ultimately, live my best life.
I received word last week that two of my dearest pals are going to be in New York together in May. The three of us have been friends for thirteen years and we’ve seen each other around the world in pairs in recent years, but we haven’t all managed to be in the same city since 2018.
So, news of their New York reunion left me with only two options:
- Die of FOMO
- Go to New York
The angel in me: I’m only just fresh back to working life after a year off (condolences accepted). There’s a cost of living crisis going on. I’ve been trying to be financially cautious for a while now. Mum and dad will tut.
The devil: But going to New York would be so. much. fun.
My Instagram algorithm also knows when it’s time to be a hype gal, so I was instantly bombarded with supportive messaging like:
“Every time I get stressed about spending so much money on travel I remember that I am but a stupid, tiny human on a massive floating rock in the universe and nothing I do actually matters in the grand scope of things so I may as well book the flight and spring for the fancy villa.”
Even more critically than Instagram’s well-trained algorithm, Delta had a sale on direct flights from Edinburgh to NYC and there was ONE sale fare seat left.
I couldn’t grab my AMEX quick enough.
So! In a bid to spark zing and live my best life, I am off to New York for a long weekend to frolic with my chums and eat big apples.
And herein lies the proof that this is a website about embracing joy and living life to the fullest, not about being financially responsible.
